Celebrity News – Inside Kim Kardashian Divorce Settlement: Kris Humphries Does Damage Control, ‘Felt Sorry For Her,’ Claims Friend

Kris Humphries settled his divorce battle with his wife of 72 days, Kim Kardashian, because he felt “sorry for her,” according to a friend of the Brooklyn Nets power forward.

“Yes, he was angry at Kim for the way their marriage ended and he truly did feel defrauded by her and the show,” the pal of the 28-year-old told Wetpaint.

“But lately, especially in recent weeks, he just feels sorry for her.

“She’s pregnant and obviously under a lot of stress. He didn’t want to be part of it any more.”

In a statement released to RadarOnline.com on Friday, a spokesperson for Humphries said he was now focussed on the Nets Eastern Conference playoff quest, which begins against the Chicago Bulls on Saturday night.

“Kris and his family are excited to move forward and are grateful for all of the support they have received in this process,” the statement read.

“His commitment to the Brooklyn Nets and the team’s incredible fans is his number one priority and he is excited to head into the playoffs tomorrow with this situation behind him.”

Kim, 32, and Kris were married in a lavish television wedding at a Montecito, Calif. estate in August 2011, but after just 72 days of wedding “bliss,” the E! star filed for divorce in October, 2011.

A source close to the situation told RadarOnline.com Kris came to the realization in the 24 hours before Friday’s settlement that the whole melodrama was a “sh*t sandwich” and that he had “zero chance” of proving their marriage was a fraud.

“Kris didn’t want the team impacted by his personal life,” the insider said.

“If the Nets advanced in the playoffs, the trial would have taken place during the games and basketball comes first for Kris.

“He also realized that he didn’t have a chance in hell of proving that Kim defrauded him. In the end, his lawyers were able to finally make him recognize that not only would he be missing out on the playoffs with the Nets, but would likely be ordered to pay Kim’s legal fees.

“Kris recognized it was a sh*t sandwich and chose to settle.”

Kim is currently pregnant with rapper Kanye West’s child.

“Unless Kim Kardashian gives in to Kris’ demand that she admit the marriage fraudulent, the divorce proceedings will still be ongoing and she will still be legally married to him when she gives birth, a source close to the situation tells Radar.

On Friday, February 15 — the day after Valentine’s Day — Kim and Kris’ divorce lawyers will be in court setting a date for the trial. The earliest the trial that can be scheduled would be the middle of June to accommodate Kris’s basketball schedule. His team, the Nets is now in second place in its division, and the play-offs don’t end until June.

Kim — who’s three months pregnant — will likely give birth in late June.

“Kris isn’t trying to drag this out, but he wants to be vindicated in court. Kris will see this through to the end” the source tells us exclusively.

As RadarOnline.com previously reported, the reality starlet’s rapper boyfriend announced Kim’s pregnancy at his concert at Atlantic City of Sunday night.

Kardashian was in Sin City for New Year’s Eve, and she told Entertainment Tonight that she hasn’t had any morning sickness.

“I wouldn’t say it has been easy, but no morning sickness,” the Keeping Up with the Kardashians star said.

“It is not as easy as people think,” she added while doing red carpet duties at 1 Oak nightclub.

Humphries and Kardashian’s ill-fated marriage lasted a whopping 72 days, and the NBA player wants the 20.5 carat Elaine Schwartz diamond ring he gave to his estranged wife back.

Kimye is refusing to return the $ 2 million dollar bauble to Humphries.

The E! reality star’s lawyer, Laura Wasser, told the judge during a routine hearing in the proceedings in November that her client was being kept “handcuffed” to Humphries by his refusal to grant a divorce and insistence that the former couple head to trial instead of ending their brief marriage.

“Ms. Kardashian is now handcuffed to Kris Humphries,” Wasser told the judge. “These delays are forcing her to be married. She wants to dissolve her marriage so she can move on with her life. I don’t think [Kris] has a case, it’s a fishing expedition.”

Fired back Humphries’ attorney Marshall Waller: “All she has to do is agree to an annulment.”

Even with the delivery of her first child, “Kim is refusing to cave to any of Kris’ demands. She has moved on with her life, and she won’t agree to an annulment on grounds that the marriage was fraudulent because it would cause catastrophic damage to her brand,” the insider said.
